Kill the Demand Not the Supplier
- Jesse Jackson
I was on my way from the grocery store this morning and on the Russ Parr Morning Show they were talking about a comment that Bill Cosby made recently. The comment dealt with Tupac’s mother still living off of Tupac’s drug sales. Russ Parr then goes to ask what should we do about this in our community? And does this still effect our community? One of the hosts of the show then states that sometimes there’s no choice and people in the neighborhood have to do what they have to do to survive.
Now I’ve never lived in the ghetto, hood, or city (unless you consider an HBCU the hood). But I believe that’s some bull. Never are we left without a choice. There is always a choice. There is a right and wrong. Now there might not always been an easy choice but that doesn’t mean that there is no choice and that’s what I feel is part of the problem. If people don’t see an easy answer then those weak minded individuals then feel that they have no choice.
Were slaves given no choice? No, they could attempt a chance at freedom or they could live their life enslaved.
Those students who sat couaglously at the lunch counter were given a choice. They could take their colored hands and mouths to the back of the restaurant and they could stand strong for the rights of themselves and all of us who followed.
So all those street chemists who feel that they have no choice are wrong. Because there is a major difference between not having a choice and not seeing an easy answer.
