I had a dream…
I had a dream that Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton were running a tight race but Obama was begginging to pull ahead. And then in my dream Clinton lost her cool when she lost yet another primary. Clinton, fueled by real emotion, delivered a powerful and firey speech. A speech delievered to a mixed audience of men, women, children, the young and old, black and white. A speech that was so infused with emotion and could have lead her to the White House…until her emotion got the best of her and she called Barack Obama a nigger…
If you’ve paid attention to the recent comments by the Clinton’s (that includes you, William) then you might have picked up on the slight undertones of racism in their voices. Now if you’re a proud African-American and/or Black person, such as myself then you will definitly notice the racial undertone of their comments. Hillary, you’re “proud” of Barack. Are you patronizing him now? Are you surprised that a black man could make it this far? Are you upset that a prominate man of color is not only matching your wits but quite possibly exceeding your intelligence?
And William to be honest…I somewhat expected some of this racial hate from Hillary. But from you, Bill? It hurts…we supported you during your presidency. We ate a McDonald’s with you, we listened while you played your sax on Arseno Hall, we gave you the same type of celebratory reaction when you weren’t removed from office as when OJ wasn’t convected of murder. And now you turn your back on black society and call our first real serious shot at the White House a fairy tale? William and Hillary you give me a break. And you give the black community a chance.
Hillary, you were incorrect when you credited civil rights legislation to President Lyndon Johnson. It wasn’t just Johnson, it wasn’t the assination of Kennedy, it also wasn’t just the speeches of Martin Luther King Jr. No it was an effort, a movement of black people and white people. A realization of all underrepresented and overworked individuals that it is our time to take a stand because we are sick and tired of what is being given to us as the status quo.
That is why Barack Obama is so important to the young voters and the black people and all those who are sick and tired of what is being given as the status quo. He is a sign that things can change and that together…just like in the Civil Rights era, we can stand up and let our voice be heard from the Cheaspeake to the San Fransico Bay as we united chant, “free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!!!”
